Law enforcers arrest rebel wanted for frustrated murder

An alleged member of the New People’s Army (NPA) wanted for frustrated murder was arrested in Sitio Cantupa, Brgy. Buenavista, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, on Sunday, January 21.

The 3rd Infantry Division reported that Rey Vincies De Leon, 30, was asserted by the Army’s 94th Infantry Battalion and the Himamaylan City police.

He is an alleged member of the dismantled Central Negros 2’s SDG Platoon under the Komiteng Rehiyon– Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor.

The suspect is now detained at the Himamaylan Police Station.

Maj. Gen. Marion Sison, 3ID commander, said that the apprehension of De Leon is tangible proof that criminals, especially wanted CPP-NPA terrorists, cannot elude authorities indefinitely.

“The long arm of the law will eventually catch up with them. Our Army and PNP are intensifying their joint law enforcement operations to neutralize offenders, including remnants of the dismantled CN2, preventing them from regaining influence in Negros”, he said.

He added that these efforts of the police and Army are integral to the drive to declare Negros Island insurgency-free.*
