Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson on Friday, March 7, joined the call for security of tenure for Barangay Violence Against Women (VAW) Desk officers.

Lacson, in an interview at the Provincial Women’s Month celebration at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central activity center in Bacolod City, said their security of tenure is vital to continuity of service.

The VAW officers are usually replaced every time there are newly elected barangays officials.

So every time there are new VAW officers they have to be trained again, Lacson said.

He said this year’s theme, “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas ,” recognizes and celebrates the critical role of women across all sectors of society – whether in politics, education, business, health, science, the arts, or other fields.

“It also serves as a call for women in all sectors to actively participate and take on leadership roles, as these contributions are vital to our shared aspiration of building a society marked by equality, opportunity, and success,” he said.

“I stand with you in our pursuit of a progressive nation rooted in equity – a society that does not discriminate based on gender, but one that empowers women to demonstrate their worth and unique capacities alongside men in nation-building. My commitment to fostering an environment where women can reach their full potential remains steadfast,” he added.*
