Bacolodnon named artist-in-residence at Tagpuan Art Atelier in Cavite

Bacolod visual artist Kyle Jocson, Vice President of Bacolod Arts, Culture and Heritage Inc. (BACHI), has been appointed artist-in-residence at Tagpuan Art Atelier in Taywanak I Baba, Cavite.

Tagpuan Art Atelier is a dedicated space for artistic creation, exhibition and community engagement. Located at the boundary of Alfonso, Maragondon and Indang in upland Cavite, Tagpuan — meaning “meeting place” — serves as a studio, exhibit venue, artist residence and site for residencies. It is a place where artists and dreamers come together to create, connect and inspire, while also opening its doors for workshops that nurture the next generation of creatives.

Kyle Jocson’s practice centers on painting and the human figure, informed by an intimate familiarity with the body — how it moves, how it works and how it carries both labor and intention. His figures are not simply images but inquiries in themselves.

Exposure to broader artistic discourses has led Jocson to confront deeper questions: not just how to paint, but why. What responsibility does an artwork carry? What does it mean to show up to a practice with accountability, not just skill?

“Some artists ask what to make. Kyle Jocson asks why,” Tagpuan Art Atelier noted in its announcement. “We are glad to welcome Kyle as our resident artist and look forward to watching his practice unfold.”

As a visual artist and Taichi practitioner from Negros Occidental, Jocson brings a unique perspective to Tagpuan’s mission of fostering creativity and dialogue. His residency is expected to enrich the flourishing artistic community of Cavite and beyond.*
