Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson confirmed on Tuesday, November 7, that he is running for a third term as governor of Negros Occidental in 2025.
“As it is, right now I am the presumptive candidate (of Love Negros) for 2025 to give me an opportunity to finish my term as provided by law,” he said.
Cadiz Mayor Salvador Escalante, United Negros Alliance (UNegA) secretary general, said on Monday that Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer has signified his intention to run for representative of the 4th District of Negros Occidental in 2025.
Ferrer is the UNegA chairman.
Under the Love Negros-UNegA coalition the vice gubernatorial bet for 2025 is expected to come from UNegA since the governor is from Love Negros.
Lacson said Love Negros has not formally met to discuss 2025, “there is really enough time for that”.
Ferrer’s plan to run for representative of the 4th District is a decision that he and his family have decided, Lacson said.
“He (Ferrer) also feels that if he is in Congress he can help more people, specifically in the 4th District… that was his decision,” Lacson said.
Lacson said the choice of the coalition’s vice gubernatorial bet will come from UNegA, he can work with anybody.
“When I say comes from UNegA, it does not necessarily mean UNegA member but is the choice of UNegA to be the vice governor candidate in 2025, assuming there are no changes in the plans of Vice Governor Ferrer,” Lacson said.
“All these developments that are happening, especially on the part of UNegA, just manifest how strong the coalition is,” Lacson said.
Lacson said he is happy with the continued support of UNegA for “this administration and we will continue to work together”.*
