Two months after Typhoon Tino struck in November, the town of La Castellana in Negros Occidental is moving evacuees from the La Castellana Elementary School into temporary tents.
Tents provided by the Office of Civil Defense are being set up at the Colegio de La Castellana to temporarily relocate 83 families, or 319 individuals.
Remuel Lajo, the town’s information officer, said Friday that this move is necessary so that classrooms at the elementary school can return to being used for classes.
Lajo said that the transfer is targeted for completion this weekend.
However, he noted that there are other evacuees affected by Tino who remain in various evacuation centers located across different barangays.
There are currently 370 families, or 1,339 individuals, still displaced due to the typhoon, Lajo said.
The procurement of land for an 8-hectare relocation site in Bacsay, Brgy. Robles, is already in process, Lajo said.
This site will be used for those whose homes were completely washed out when Typhoon Tino hit, he said.*
