The La Castellana municipal government is proposing multiple local government units as evacuation sites for its residents should Alert Level 4 be raised at Kanlaon Volcano, Mayor Rhummyla Nicor Mangilimutan said on Thursday, Jan. 23.
La Castellana will present its contingency plan on Friday for the evacuation of 40,000 residents if Alert Level 4 is raised, Raul Fernandez, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Western Visayas and Task Force Kanlaon head, said earlier.
However, Mangilimutan said up for evacuation under Alert Level 4 are 37,000 La Castellana residents.
She said they are proposing that aside from the tent city in Himamaylan and Binalbagan, their displaced residents should also be evacuated to the northern part of the province.
Mangilimutan said they are proposing that the La Castellana evacuees also be evacuated to Talisay City, Silay City and the Panaad Sports Complex in Bacolod City.
They are also focusing on vehicles needed for the mass evacuation, and on a permanent solution for the relocation of La Castellana residents who will not be allowed to return to Kanlaon’s 4-kilometer danger zone, she said.*
