Millie Kilayko, president and chief executive officer of the Negrense Volunteers for Change, received a Philippine Daily Inquirer (PDI) Women of Power award at rites held at the Seda Hotel at Bonifacio Global City, Monday night, Mach 11.
Now in its second year, the WOP recognizes women of remarkable accomplishments or expertise, tangible community impact and inspiring contributions in their chosen fields, Volt Contreras, PDI executive editor, said.
“By power, we mean not only positions of high authority or clout in our society, but a broad measure of one’s empowering actions or influence in organizations, niches or entire sectors,” Contreras said.
He said they arrived at 38 awardees this year in keeping with the Inquirer’s 38th anniversary .
Kilayko was honored for bringing hope and new lives to thousands of poor people not only in Negros Occidental, but as far north as Batanes to as far south as Basilan, Sulu and TawiTawi for close to 40 years, and joy to children suffering from cancer and life threatening diseases. *
