Rep.  Jocelyn Sy Limkaichong (Neg. Or., 1st District) said on Tuesday, June 4, that the government response to the Kanlaon Volcano eruption   shows the need for the Negros Island Region.

Limkaichong, at a press conference in Canlaon City, said with Negros Oriental belonging to Region 7 and Negros Occidental to Region 6 a coordinated response is a bit of a challenge.

Kanlaon Volcano straddles Negros Occidental and Oriental so its volcanic activity usually affects both provinces.

“Hopefully the president will hear out clamor for the NIR to be signed into law,” Limkaichong said.

The NIR bill, which seeks to place Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor under one region, is pending before the Office of the President.*
