The conflict between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte is hurting investor confidence in the country because of perceived political instability, Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito said on Monday, Dec. 2.

Ejercito, who held a press conference in Bacolod City, said the political bickering of the top officials of the country that is already being reported by major news networks abroad is sending wrong signals to investors.

“No matter how we try to market our country to attract investors when you have the number one and two officials fighting that is political instability,” Ejercito said.

“I do not want to dip my hands in the political bickering and mudslinging,” he said.

“That’s their battle, luckily I’m not part of the UniTeam I don’t owe any favors, I’m only beholden to the Filipino people,” he said.

“I am a worker and there are still a lot of things that need to be given attention,” he said.

Ejercito stressed the need to focus on infrastructure development, noting that the Philippines is being left behind by Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam and has a lot of catching up to do.

“Pushing infrastructure development will create new growth areas”, he said.*
