Consul General Hideki Yamaji of the Japanese consulate in Cebu led the turnover of books to the Negros Occidental Provincial Library in Bacolod City, on Wednesday, November 9.
The books were received by Negros Occ. Board Member Rita Gatuslao, Provincial Librarian Rio Rio Lynne Panisa, and April Duran of the Special Projects and Concerns Division.
The Read Japan Project was implemented in cooperation with the Nippon Foundation and the Japan Science Society together with the Consulate-General of Japan in Cebu.
It aims to provide readers around the world with an accurate picture of Japan through the donation of remarkable books. It also aims to help students and researchers who are interested in Japanese studies, a press release said.
The library received 143 books that contain facts about Japan, and Japanese history, economy, culture, and tradition.
The consul general also paid a courtesy visit to Negros Occidental Acting Governor Jeffrey Ferrer and Acting Vice Governor Manuel Frederick Ko at the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod Wednesday morning.*
