Indian national on shooting spree injures sister-in-law, four others

An Indian national and four others were wounded in a daytime shooting spree sparked by a personal grudge along Hacienda Buyong-Buyong Road in Brgy. Bagtic, Silay City, at about 10:25 a.m. Wednesday, April 8.

A Silay police investigation report said the primary target was a 42-year-old Indian national residing in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod City, who was traveling on a motorcycle driven by her 45-year-old employee.

While enroute from Brgy. Guimbalaon to Brgy. Bagtic in Silay, the pair noticed a motorcycle trailing them.

The suspect—identified as the victim’s own brother-in-law, also an Indian national—suddenly opened fire, hitting the woman in the left side of her stomach.

The driver sustained abrasions on his left hand after losing control of the motorcycle and crashing to the ground. In an attempt to escape, the wounded woman managed to flag down and board a passing multicab.

However, the suspect pursued the utility vehicle and continued firing, hitting three innocent passengers: 52-year-old and 50-year-old farmers were hit on their right arms, while a 76-year-old male resident of Brgy. Guimbalaon who was hit on his right arm and chest. . Responding officers along with the Silay City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office personnel rushed the five victims to the Teresita Jalandoni Lopez Provincial Hospital in Silay City.

All victims are currently in stable condition, the police sdaid.

Police have tagged a personal grudge as the motive for the attack and have launched a hot pursuit operation to apprehend the suspect.*
