The observance of Holy Week in the Negros Island Region was generally peaceful and orderly, the Police Regional Office (PRO) NIR reported on Sunday, April 5.

The deployment of over 1,000 police personnel ensured heightened public safety and successfully preserved the solemnity of Holy Week, the report said.

PRO NIR recorded 36 incidents regionwide from March 29 to April 5, the majority of which were non-index crimes and manageable.

All incidents were promptly addressed through swift police response and effective coordination, preventing escalation and maintaining peace and order, the PRO-NIR said . Police from Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, and Bacolod City were strategically deployed to churches, pilgrimage sites, major highways, transport terminals, and commercial establishments.

Personnel were also stationed at beach areas, resorts, and other tourist destinations to ensure visibility and manage crowds and traffic. The report added that close coordination with local government units and partner agencies contributed to the smooth conduct of both religious and recreational activities.

Assistance desks and police help stations were also established to provide immediate support to the public.*
