Hinoba-an typhoon victims get more than P5M in aid

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson distributed more than P5 million in assistance to 1,017 typhoon “Odette” victims in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental, Wednesday, January 19.

Distributed were P4.7 million in GI sheets, P270,000 in rice, P100,000 in canned goods and noodles, 2,500 banana seedlings estimated at about P125,000 and 20 solar lights with chargers, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said.

The 20 solar lights with chargers donated by Cindy Manlapaz and Brave Energy were raffled off to the typhoon victims, he said.

Lacson said the assistance delivered Wednesday came from provincial government funds and private sector donations.

“Odette” caused more than P5 billion in damage to infrastructure and crops in Negros Occidental, he said.

The provincial government last week also distributed assistance to Sipalay City, and will hold a similar activity in Ilog, next week.

Lacson, in his speech before the Hinoba-an beneficiaries, also clarified President Rodrigo Duterte’s announcement that typhoon-affected families will receive a maximum of P5,000 each.

Based on the guidelines issued by the national government each member of a family will receive P1,000, which means if a family has three members they will receive P3,000 and if they have six they will only get P5,000 that is the maximum, he said.

The governor while in Hinoba-an also visited the new site of the Eleuterio T. Decena Memorial Hospital.

The P124.9 million new hospital is being built with funds sourced by the provincial government from a Land Bank of the Philippines loan.

Hinoba-an Mayor Ernesto Estrao and former Rep. Mercedes Alvarez thanked the provincial government led by Lacson for the assistance.

Alvarez pointed out that the provincial government is providing assistance to all typhoon-hit areas in the sixth district.*
