Fastcrafts waiting for order lifting negative RT-PCR rule

Negative RT-PCR test results will still be required of travelers to Bacolod City from Panay and Negros Oriental until Mayor Evelio Leonardia issues an executive order lifting the requirement, Dr. Chris Sorongon, Emergency Operations Center deputy, said Wednesday, January 19.

Leonardia is expected to issue an executive order lifting the requirement for negative RT-PCR test results for intra-zonal travel soon.

Operators of fastcrafts plying the Bacolod-Iloilo-Bacolod route will have to wait for the executive orders of Leonardia and Iloilo Mayor Jerry Treñas before they can stop requiring the negative RT-PCR test results of passengers, Frank Carbon of Weesam Express said.

Treñas said he will lift the requirement for the negative RT-PCR after Leonardia issues his executive order.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, when asked for his reaction, said “I believe an executive order lifting the negative RT-PCR test requirement has not been issued yet.”

A meeting of the Provincial Incident Management Team will be held Thursday to discuss the matter, he said.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said with the rising COVID-19 cases he is hoping that the lifting of the negative RT-PCR requirement is held off until the Omicron wave passes.

Bacolod Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said the EO will be issued in consultation with the Treñas, Lacson and Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor.

The entire Western Visayas and Negros Island are under COVID-19 Alert Level 3.*
