Health officer, 2 others killed in Guihulngan shootings

Three people, including a health officer, were killed in separate shooting incidents in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental today, December 15.

The first incident happened at Carmen Ville Subdivision in Barangay Poblacion at around 5:20 p.m.

Based on the initial police investigation, Dr. Mary Rose Sancelan, city health officer of Guihulngan and incident commander of the local Inter-Agency Task Force, and husband Edwin Sancelan, a local government employee, were on their way home when the unidentified suspect fired at the victims and quickly fled from the area.

The victims were brought to a hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Recovered from the crime scene were 15 fired cartridges of a .45 caliber pistol.

Personnel of the Guihulngan City Police Station are conducting a follow-up investigation for the possible identification and arrest of the assailant.

Ten minutes later, at around 5:30 p.m., another shooting incident was reported at Barangay Calamba.

Killed was 50-year-old Saeler Alsong of the barangay.

Based on the initial investigation, the victim was on board his motorcycle when the riding-in-tandem suspects approached him and shot him several times.

He was brought to the hospital but did not make it.

Recovered from the scene were 14 fired cartridges and two deformed slugs of a .45 caliber pistol.

The police have yet to establish the motive for the killings.*
