Guv: We can influence peace through tourism

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson urged Negrenses to embrace the spirit of collaboration and the capacity to influence peace through tourism during the opening of the 24th Provincial Tourism Week at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central in Bacolod City, on Friday, Sept. 27.

Lacson, in his speech, said that tourism plays a vital role in fostering international harmony and cultural understanding, contributing to lasting peace.

The opening of the Provincial Tourism Week coincided with the World Tourism Day celebration with the theme “Tourism and Peace”.

“Tourism Week is not just a time to highlight our attractions, rich culture, and warm hospitality”, the governor said, adding “it is an opportunity to reflect on the countless ways in which tourism impacts our economy, our environment, and our social foundation”.

The opening program was also highlighted with the presentation of the activities in the weeklong event and the food parade where each of the Neg. Occ. cities and town presented their respective culinary dishes and delicacies.

Local government booths with various tourism products and services also opened at the mall on Friday.

The Provincial Tourism Week will run until Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Lacson also inducted the members of the newly created Negros Occidental Arts and Culture Council during the Provincial Tourism Week opening program.
