Guv to launch scholarship program for brgy captains

The Certificate on Public Administration and Governance will be obtained at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos *

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson is set to launch the Scholarship for Local Leaders on Barangay Governance at the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in Bacolod City on June 22.

The launching will kick-off with a ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between the Province of Negros Occidental represented by Lacson and the University of Negros Occidental- Recoletos represented by its president, Fr. Don H. Besana.

The scholarship is aimed at boosting the managerial and leadership skills of local leaders through the provision of a one-semester – 15 units Certificate on Public Administration and Governance (CPAG), a press release from the Capitol said.

The scholarship will provide in-depth understanding of the theories and practices in public administration focusing on barangay governance that will build the confidence of local leaders in managing barangay affairs and activities, it said.

This program will be managed by the Negros Occidental Scholarship Program Division headed by Karen Dinsay, in collaboration with the Sangguniang Palalawigan – Committee on Barangay Affairs led by Board Member Juvy Pepello.

Pepello said that the SP Committee on Brgy. Affairs will work hand in hand with the NOSPD during the screening process of the pioneering batch.

Lacson said that there is a need to upgrade the knowledge and skills of local leaders in public administration.*
