Guv proposing use of P7K allowance of employees for health insurance

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson*

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson is proposing that the P7,000 yearly medical allowance to be granted to government employees beginning 2025 be used to get them medical insurance.

Lacson said he will meet with the Progressive Alliance of Capitol Employees officials to discuss the proposal.

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) on January 2 approved Budget Circular No. 2024-6, which sets out guidelines for the P7,000 allowance granted under Executive Order (EO) No. 64 issued by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in August 2024.

Lacson said the P7,000 medical allowance that employees will receive can be used as a premium for medical insurance.

The governor said if the P7,000 is given to the employees he doubts that all will use it for their medical needs.

“If we can insure everybody using the P7, 000 as payment of premium the medical coverage of the employees will be bigger,” he said.

On top of that regular provincial government employees are covered by the Negros Occidental Comprehensive Health Program that gives them up to P5,000, he added.*
