Guv hopes amnesty draws many takers

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson*

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Tuesday, Nov. 28, that he supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s granting of amnesty to members of rebel groups and he hopes there will be many takers.

Marcos has granted amnesty to former New People’s Army rebels and members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, Moro National Liberation Front and Rebolusyonaryong Partido ng Manggagawa ng Pilipinas/Revolutionary Proletarian Army/Alex Boncayao Brigade.

For as long as the amnesty granted is for their political beliefs that led them to rebellion, he is okay with it, Lacson said.

“I would rather that the Philippine government grants amnesty rather than see them with arms,” he said.

However, they should not be granted amnesty for crimes such as kidnap for ransom, massacres and rape, he said.
