The Love Negros-United Negros Alliance coalition will listen to the sentiments of the mayors of the 5th District of Negros Occidental on whom to support for representative of their district in the 2025 polls, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Thursday, June 20.
“I don’t think that it will be left to the leaders of the coalition to decide…of course we will listen to their sentiments,” he said.
Dina Arroyo Tantoco is rumored to be planning to run against incumbent Rep. Emilio “Dino” Yulo III for the fifth congressional seat of Negros Occidental, a post previously held by her late father Ignacio Arroyo and aunt Marilou Arroyo.
Fifth District mayors Alejandro Mirasol of Binalbagan, Raymund Tongson of Himamaylan City, Irene Montilla of Isabela, Ella Garcia Yulo of Moises Padilla, and Rhummyla Mangilimutan of La Castellana met with former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at her house in Quezon City.
Present at the meeting aside from the former president were her husband Mike Arroyo, son Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo and Tantoco.
The mayors did not endorse Tantoco as their candidate for representative of the 5th District during the gathering at the house of GMA, Negros Occidental Board Member Anton Occeño said on Wednesday.
Occeño said Tantoco’s running for representative was not discussed.
“It is too early to say” if Tantoco will run for the 5th Congressional seat, he said.*
