Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson has approved the resignation of Lucille Gelvolea as head of the provincial government’s Economic Enterprise Development Department (EEDD) effective Dec. 16.

Gelvolea, in her letter to the governor dated Nov. 16, said she was opting for early retirement after working for the provincial government for 37 years.

Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez is appointing Gelvolea as the new city administrator following the resignation of lawyer Pacifico Maghari III.

Gelvolea, who worked with Lacson at the provincial government for more than a decade, thanked him for the opportunity to head the EEDD.

“I have been with the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental for 37 years to this date. The years of serving the various stakeholders of the PGNO were the best milestones of my life that have changed my perspective, honed my knowledge and skills, and provided an in-depth understanding of how rewarding it is to work with different groups/people’s organizations and make an impact in their lives,” she said.

“I have delivered what was expected of me and I am looking forward to 2024 in a different light”, she said, explaining that an opportunity to work in an equally challenging LGU has been opened.

“I humbly ask for your go-ahead nod for this transfer,” she said.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said the transfer of Gelvolea had been planned for some time and the governor assured that she will be given all the possible help she will need.

“We want to support Mayor Albee and to make sure that his administration succeeds in implementing all the plans and programs that he has,” Diaz also said.

He said Gelvolea served the provincial government for 37 years with honors and will be given all the benefits due her from the provincial government.

The governor has not named a new EEDD head yet, Diaz said.*
