Guv: 5-day work week resuming, no decision on lifting curfew yet

The Negros Occidental provincial government will resume five-day work weeks starting March 1, but no decision has been made on the lifting of curfew, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said Monday, February 21.

The provincial government last year shifted to four-day work weeks at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lacson said no decision has been made on the lifting of curfew because some barangay captains prefer that it be retained to minimize petty crimes and to keep minors indoors.

Aside from preventing the spread of COVID-19, there are other reasons why curfew is helpful to the community, the governor said.

When a decision has to be made on lifting curfew, the sentiments of the barangay captains will be considered, Lacson said.

Lacson said they are also studying the proposals of airlines to increase flights. They will see if the COVID-19 situation continues to improve, he said.

He also said the provincial government-owned Mambukal Mountain Resort and Wildlife Sanctuary in Brgy. Minoyan, Murcia, will be reopened when repairs are completed to restart tourism activities in the Negros Occidental.

The resort was closed after Typhoon “Odette” hit in December for repairs and clearing of debris.*
