The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is providing claim benefits to the family of the Paglaum Village Elementary School teacher from Bacolod City who died and the others who were injured in a bus accident in Don Salvador Benedicto town in Negros Occidental on June 14.
“The GSIS is committed to ensure that their benefits are processed swiftly, offering relief during this difficult time,” Wick Veloso, GSIS president and general manager, said Friday, June 21.
The teachers, who had joined a team building activity at Sipaway Island in San Carlos City, were onboard a Bacolod City government bus which brakes failed at a downhill section of the highway causing it to fall on its side.
Arlyn Tolosa Verde, 42, died, and 37 others were injured, 31 of whom were teachers, the police reported.
Veloso said that the dependents of the deceased teacher are eligible for various benefits such as death benefit, survivorship benefit, funeral benefit, and personal accident insurance benefit.
The injured teachers are eligible for medical reimbursement through their personal accident insurance and can file for an Employee’s Compensation claim related to the accident, he added.
“The GSIS is closely working with the Department of Education to ensure these claims are released promptly,” Veloso said.*
