A close to two-hour grassfire hit 3 hectares of land near Gate 3 of the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corporation (BREDCO) port in Barangay 8, Bacolod City, Monday afternoon, March 18, the Bacolod City Fire Station reported.
The fire started at 4:59 p.m. and was put out at 6:34 pm., the fire station reported.
A close to five-hour grassfire also hit three hectares at the reclamation area covering barangays 2, 6 and 8 in Bacolod City on Thursday afternoon, March 14.
Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez on Saturday called on landowners to trim the grass in their vacant properties to prevent grassfires from breaking out.
This would also spare firefighters from additional work and undue waste of water, he said on Saturday.*
