Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson on Friday, Oct. 17, called for prayers for Kanlaon Volcano to calm down amid its rising number of volcanic earthquakes.
There were 90 volcanic earthquakes recorded at Kanlaon on Friday and 85 on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
An explosive eruption or more ash emission at Kanlaon Volcano has become more imminent with the rising volcanic
earthquakes, Ma. Antonia V. Bornas, Phivolcs Volcano Monitoring and Eruption Prediction Division chief, said on Thursday.
“The chances of such activity are increasing; it could happen any time, but we cannot predict when,” she said.
Lacson also called for prayers for the victims of recent earthquakes.
The governor said he just signed the check for the P2 million assistance of the Negros Occidental provincial government for earthquake-hit Bogo City in Cebu.*
