Mayor Greg Gasataya said he is meeting with Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) representatives on Tuesday, Dec. 9, to clarify if all Bacolod residents whose houses were destroyed and damaged by recent typhoons will receive assistance.

Gasataya said he received information that the DSWD will be allocating P100 million for Bacolod, which “would not be enough to cover the over 4,000 families whose houses were totally destroyed and the 40,000 that were partially damaged”.

Under the DSWD’s emergency cash transfer (ECT) program, beneficiaries with partially damaged houses will receive P5,000 while those with totally damaged houses will receive P10,000.

The DSWD is prioritizing the distribution of monetary aid to families whose homes sustained significant damage from the recent typhoon, a press release from the department said.

Gasataya said he received information that DSWD is set to release the assistance to beneficiaries whose reported damage has been validated.

“What I want clarify is if all on the list of partially and totally damaged houses will receive aid because the information we got is not everyone will be able to receive,” Gasataya said

That will be a big challenge because the others will complain, he said

“The DSWD told me that those who will not be covered by the available funds this year will be covered next week,” he said.

The DSWD is validating the list because there are some who were listed twice, Gasataya added.*
