The Negros Occidental Garden Club (NOGC) turned over assorted vegetable seed packs to Teofilo M. Gensoli Sr. National High School in Barangay Vista Alegre, Bacolod City, as part of its annual seed dispersal initiative.
The donation aims to help rebuild the campus vegetable garden after it was severely damaged by typhoon-induced flooding last year, a press release from NOGC said.
The seeds—which include okra, string beans, winged beans, eggplants, tomatoes, and peppers—were provided by the Avon Multi-Purpose Cooperative through its board member and former NOGC president Lourdes M. Mercado.
With the new supply, faculty and students are working to restart their Gulayan sa Paaralan program, an initiative focused on promoting food sustainability, environmental stewardship, and practical agricultural training.
NOGC President Lope “Nonoy” Napao, who led the turnover alongside club officers and board members, said the initiative serves to instill values of teamwork, responsibility, and environmental care among students.
School Principal Dr. Anna Bacolod expressed gratitude for the assistance, noting that the seeds will allow the school to recover from typhoon damages while teaching students resilience and food production.
Established in 1962, the NOGC conducts regular community projects across the province, including tree planting, landscaping, feeding programs, and seed distribution drives.*
