Free e-jeep rides offered

Drivers of electric jeepneys (e-jeeps) are conducting road tests and are giving free rides to the public in 13 Bacolod City routes.

Rommel Azucena, one of the e-jeep operators, said they started conducting road tests on Friday, October 27, to check how many hours the vehicles can operate before re-charging again.

There will be 13 routes where the e-jeep will be deployed, including from barangays Sum-ag, Alijis, Punta Taytay, and Handumanan to major public markets of the city, he said.

Azucena said that so far they have not met any problems while operating the vehicle.

The free rides will be conducted until next week in all the 13 routes of the e-jeeps, he added.

More e-jeeps are expected to arrive in the last quarter of the year that were ordered by various transport cooperatives.

Azucena said that operators are hoping to get lower priced of e-jeeps that are affordable.

The e-jeeps are manufactured by China-based Jiangsu Fengchuen New Energy Power Technology Co. Ltd., which also plans on putting up a manufacturing plant in Bacolod City.*
