Two missing fishermen from Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, were found alive in Masbate, while two others from Valladolid town were rescued at sea, Commander Jansen Benjamin, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Northern Negros Occidental head, said on Sunday, Oct. 27.
All four had gone out to fish amid inclement weather brought on by severe tropical storm “Kristine”.
Joren Parochil, 22, and Edwin Hinojales, 17, of Cadiz City who went fishing Thursday morning were reported missing when they failed to return home in the evening.
They were rescued floating in the waters near Nabugtu Island in Masbate, Saturday. They are with the Masbate Coast Guard, Benjamin said.
Meanwhile, two reported missing fishermen from Valladolid, Negros Occidental, whose banca was damaged while fishing in the waters between Guimaras and Pontevedra on Friday were rescued at sea on Saturday, Oct. 26, he said.
The banca of Robin Fajardo, 42, and Jose Carlo Jurial, 52, of Brgy. Sagua Banwa, Valladolid, was damaged by strong wind and waves at 4 p.m. Friday that left them floating in the water until they were rescued the next morning, Benjamin said.
Two Silay City, Negros Occidental, fishermen rescued them in Pulupandan waters at 8:45 a.m. Saturday and turned them over to the Silay City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office personnel.*
