Flooding damaged a water treatment facility in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, on Sunday affecting 4,000 consumers.
San Carlos City Mayor Renato Gustilo said on Monday, Feb. 24, that the flooding damaged the Medina Water Treatment Facility cutting off a major source of water, as it produces about 4 million liters a day.
The engineer said the repair of the facility could take a week, but he is pushing for it to be completed within three to four days, Gustilo said.
Meanwhile, water tankers are rationing water to affected residents, he said.
Heavy rains in the mountains of San Carlos City caused flooding in Brgy 1 and 5 on Sunday, Joe Recalex Alingasa, San Carlos City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office head, said on Monday.
The damage to the Medina Water Treatment Facility has affected about 4,000 consumers, Alingasa said.
Heavy rains began on Sunday morning resulting in the overflow of the Palampas River and Andoon Creek, he said.
Alingasa said the flooding affected 45 houses in Barangay 1 and 28 in Barangay 5 in San Carlos City.
None of the 300 residents of the affected evacuated since the water immediately subsided, Alingasa said.
LANDSLIDE
A house was also destroyed by a landslide in Brgy Rizal, San Carlos City, he also said.
The five occupants of the house are all safe because prior to the landslide they saw cracks in the slope and evacuated, Alingasa said.*
