A 53-year-old fishpond overseer was found dead inside his residence in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, on Saturday afternoon, June 14.

The victim, a resident of Saint James Village, Brgy. Old Sagay, was discovered dead at around 5:50 p.m., the police said.

The Sagay City Police Station said concerned residents reported the discovery of the body, prompting police and personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to respond.

Upon arrival, responders found the victim lying lifeless inside a room of his residence.

Police said the body was already in an advanced state of decomposition and emitting a foul odor, indicating that the victim may have been dead for about four days.

According to a neighbor, she last saw the victim alive on the morning of June 11.

The neighbor later noticed a foul smell coming from the house and checked the residence, where she found the victim lying motionless inside.

The body was retrieved by CDRRMO personnel with the assistance of police officers.

A medico-legal officer who examined the body at the scene said the exact cause of death could not immediately be determined due to the advanced state of decomposition.

However, the examiner believed the victim may have died in his sleep from a sudden natural cause.

Police said no signs of foul play were observed during the initial investigation.*
