A fisherman died after he was hit with a hard object by an alleged mentally ill man in Purok 5, Brgy. Ermita, Sipaway Island in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, Friday, Nov. 24.
Charlito Regaplaza, 57, a resident of the island, died after a 25-year-old man, whose name was withheld by the police, struck him with a hard object.
The police said while the victim was sleeping in a nipa hut, the suspect suddenly struck his head with an unknown hard object causing his death.
PMaj. Ryan Villasario , San Carlos City deputy police chief, told DIGICAST NEGROS that the motive of the incident was not clear.
He said that the suspect is known in their community to be suffering from a mental illness.
The suspect tried to hide in his house but was eventually arrested by the police.
Villasario said that on Saturday, Nov. 25, they filed murder charges against the suspect.*
