A 48-year-old fisherman died after he was hit by lightning while at sea in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental, on Friday afternoon, July 31.
The E.B. Magalona police said the incident happened at around 3:35 p.m. off the waters of Purok Banagan, Brgy. Tomongtong.
Initial investigation showed that the victim was aboard his motorized banca when lightning suddenly struck him, his wife said.
Fellow fishermen immediately rescued the victim and brought him back to shore.
Personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection in E.B. Magalona, who responded after receiving a report from a concerned citizen, rushed the victim to the Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City.
However, the attending physician declared him dead.*
