Firecracker victims now 89 in Neg. Occ., Bacolod

There were 214 Western Visayas residents who sustained fireworks-related injuries from December 21 to January 3, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Wednesday.

This is .47 percent higher than the 213 cases during the same period last year, the DOH added.

Meanwhile, the fireworks-related victims in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City hit 89 on Wednesday, January 3.

The 58 injured in Negros Occidental increased to 81, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) reported.

Of the 81 in Negros Occidental 11 were injured while liquor intoxicated and the “triangulo” was the firecracker that caused the most injuries, the PHO reported.

Kabankalan City was still the area with the most injuries at 13 followed by Bago City with 11, Hinigaran – 8, Silay City – 5, Cadiz City, La Carlota City, Binalbagan, Talisay City and Valladolid – 4 each, La Castellana, Victorias City, San Carlos City and Murcia – 3 each, Isabela and Sagay City – 2 each, and EB Magalona Sipalay City, Pontevedra, Manapla, San Enrique, Moises Padilla, Himamaylan City and Escalante City – 1 each

The were 60 injuries from blast burns, eye injuries – 16, blast burns and eye injuries – 3, and blast burns with amputation – 2, the PHO reported.

The City Health Office (CHO) reported eight cases in Bacolod City.

Two suffered from fireworks-related injuries in Villamonte and one each in Pahanocoy, Alangilan, Singcang-Airport, Mansilingan , Estefania and Barangay 36, the CHO reported.

An 11-year-old child from Estefania was severely injured and hospitalized, while the left hand of an 8-year-old was damaged, the CHO said.*
