A fire destroyed a building and much needed supplies for the opening of classes at the Mansilingan Agro-Industrial High School in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 7.

The initial fire damage was placed at P1.8 million, Chief Inspector Rodel Legaspi, Bacolod City fire marshal, said Wednesday.

The fire may have started from the electrical wirings in the old building used as a stockroom for supplies and a library, Legaspi said.

School Principal Michael Divinagracia said destroyed in the fire were about 400 reams of bond paper for modules of students, books and science laboratory equipment.

He estimated the cost of the science equipment at about P800,000.

The bond paper for the modules was supposed to be distributed to the teachers on Wednesday, he said.

Divinagracia is appealing for bond paper donations for the modules needed by their students, with classes set to start Monday.*
