Fall armyworms damage to corn hits P38M: guv

Fall armyworms damage to corn fields in Negros Occidental has reached P38,074,800, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Tuesday, August 6.

Hit were 2,504.60 hectares of corn fields in 11 local government units as of July 31, a report submitted to the governor by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist said.

This has affected 3,961 farmers in 77 barangays, it said.

The fall armyworms damage to corn fields in San Carlos City was P9,465,575, Calatrava – P7,084,500, La Castellana – P4,439,477.75, Himamaylan City – P3,772,613, Moises Padilla -P3,556,150, Isabela – P3,291,740, Murcia – P3,211,317.53, Don Salvador Benedicto – P2,353,633.75, Hinoba-an – P522,960, llog – P196,900 and Sipalay City – P179,933.13.

The P3 million earmarked for pesticides by the provincial government has already been bidded out, they are just waiting for the delivery to boost the battle against the fall armyworms, Lacson said.*
