For three consecutive years now E. B. Magalona through its Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) has been a consistent recipient of the Green Banner Seal of Compliance (GBSC) for its nutrition programs.

The GBSC for 2023 was received by Municipal Health Officer Dr. Edmundo Janeo Jr., who is also the action officer of the MNC, during the 2024 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony at Smallville 21 Hotel in Iloilo City Thursday, Nov. 21.

The GBSC is an award presented by the National Nutrition Council (NNC) and Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) to local government units (LGUs) in recognition of their sustainable intervention programs to combat and eradicate malnutrition, especially among children, a press release from EB Magalona said Friday.

The Municipal Nutrition Committee, chaired by Mayor Marvin Malacon, has received the GBSC for 2021, 2022, and 2023.

E. B. Magalona was one of only two municipalities in Negros Occidental that won the GBSC for 2023, while five cities from Negros Occidental won in the city category.

“The health and well-being of Saraviahanon children is our utmost priority. Our young people are our future leaders. We cannot afford to lose their dreams by losing the battle against malnutrition,” Malacon stressed.

Those who attended the 2024 regional awarding ceremony with Janeo were Municipal Nutrition Program coordinator-designate Adonis Auquico, MNC staff and BNS Antonia Delabotique, and MNC member and BHW president Ma. Ruby Escollada.

Conferring the GBSC for 2023 award were NNC assistant secretary and executive director Dr. Azucena Dayanghirang, RNC program coordinator Sheryl Sedantes, and DILG-6 assistant regional director Maria Calpiza Sardua.*
