DOST VI, NegOcc stakeholders gear up for Pandayan ng Bayan

An RU Foundry shredder turns waste into fertilizer in southern Negros Occidental*

The Department of Science and Technology in Western Visayas and its partner stakeholders are gearing up for their Pandayan ny Bayan project to benefit the six congressional districts of Negros Occidental.

The DOST VI held a meeting with five State Colleges and Universities (SUCs) and RU Foundry and Machine Shop in Bacolod City to set up plans for the proposed Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) project dubbed “Pandayan ng Bayan”, it announced Friday, August 20.

Joining the project are the  Central Philippines State University for Economic Development, Carlos Hilado Memorial State University for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Climate Change Adaptation, Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology  for Health and Nutrition,  Philippine Normal University – Visayas  for Environmental Protection and Conservation, and Technological University of the Philippines – Visayas for Human Resource Development.

 Each institution will also be assigned to each district where they will undertake the project.

CPSU will serve as the project’s implementing agency while other partner SUCs are collaborating agencies.

RU Foundry and Machine Shop together with the Eco-Agri Development Foundation headed by Ramon Uy Sr.  will also serve as project collaborators.

The proposed Pandayan ng Bayan project will enhance the capabilities of the local communities in the manufacturing and fabrication of replacement parts, repair and maintenance, access to metal works and complement rural industrialization.

The initiative will highlight support to the selected groups/communities in Negros on metal works, fabrication, designing and assembly of appropriate tools and equipment needed in the agricultural sector. It will provide employment opportunities and creation of wealth at the local levels.*DOST6 PR
