Donations needed for vehicle to help sick in poor communities

A fundraising campaign is on to purchase a vehicle badly needed by the Siervas de Maria (Servants of Mary) sisters in their mission to serve the poor who are sick in Bacolod City.

The sisters need the vehicle to visit those who are very sick in their homes and to bring them to their charity clinic at Purok Ezequiel Moreno in Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod City charity diva Token Lizares said today, November 20.

They not only care for the physical health but also the psychological, spiritual and social needs of patients and their family members, Sister Carmen Piña, superior of the Servants of Mary, said.

“When we were established in Handumanan, we started to discover how many poor sick people were dying in their homes, without any help, for the lack of resources to avail of medical treatment and to buy medicines,” she said.

They are badly in need of a vehicle to be used as an ambulance to transfer their bedridden patients and those unable to walk from their homes to their clinic so they can be healed by a doctor, she said.

With a vehicle they can provide poor patients access to medical help that would be otherwise impossible for them to avail of, Piña added.

Supporting the campaign to purchase a vehicle to enable the sisters to carry out their work for Christ among the poorest of the poor will be a huge blessing, Lizares said.

“Together we can improve the lives of many suffering poor families, who have seemingly lost hope,” she added.

Those who wish to help the sisters purchase the much-needed vehicle may deposit their donations at RCBC Account No. 1421176899 of the Local Superior of the Siervas de Maria, or call Sister Carmen at 09154564111, Lizares said.

In Matthew 25:40 Christ says, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me,” Lizares said of the mission of the Servants of Mary.*
