Health Undersecretary Mary Ann Palermo Maestral said a nationwide “Search and Destroy Mosquito Breeding Sites” kick-off event for dengue prevention and control will be held 4 p.m. Monday, February 24

The event with the theme “Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito (Four o’clock against mosquitoes)” will be held amid the rise in cases, Maestral said.

“As dengue cases continue to rise across the country, it is essential that we unite our resources and efforts to implement effective, immediate, and sustainable interventions,” she said.

“This nationwide initiative aims to strengthen our collective efforts in controlling the spread of dengue by identifying and eliminating mosquito breeding sites, which are critical in reducing the prevalence of the disease,” Maestral said.

The dengue related deaths in Negros Occidental this year have increased to six, a Provincial Health Office report said Thursday, Feb. 20.

The dengue cases in the province from Jan. 1 to Feb. 15 have also increased to 849, the report said,

That is an increase by 387.93 percent of 675 cases more compared to the same period last year with 174 cases, the PHO said. *
