Discourteous behavior won’t be tolerated: Albee

Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez has directed a traffic aide to explain a viral video showing him “acting discourteously and inappropriately” against a jeepney driver and his partner.

Benitez in his show cause order addressed to Traffic Aide 1 Chris Aragon released Friday, July 15, directed him to submit an affidavit containing his written explanation within three days on why no formal charge should be filed against him relative to the incident.

Failure to file the written explanation shall be construed to be a waiver of his right to be heard and contravene allegations against him, the mayor added.

The viral video showed an altercation between Aragon and a certain Regie Desuyo and his partner Joan Ducay at Lacson-BS Aquino Drive in Bacolod City.

Maj. Junji Liba, Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) head, said the incident was triggered when Desuyo attempted to make a left turn   towards BS Aquino Drive from the wrong lane.

His attention was called by the traffic enforcer and the argument ensued.

Liba said Aragon and the couple met at the BTAO on Friday and they settled the matter, asked forgiveness and shook hands.

Aragon, a regular traffic enforcer of the city, was transferred to another post, Liba said.

Liba said traffic enforcers are reminded to observe maximum tolerance and to be courteous.

Benitez said discourteous behavior by traffic enforcers and city government frontliners will not be tolerated.

If the driver was at fault there is a standard that must be followed in handling such cases, he said.*
