Two barangays in Kabankalan City have been declared “Drug-Free” by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The declaration was made Thursday, Sept. 26, after a series of deliberations and validations by the Regional Oversight Committee of the DILG, a press release from Kabankalan City said.
The two barangays – Camingawan headed by Punong Barangay Rico Regalia and Orong headed by Punong Barangay Santiago Tamayo Sr., have been cleared under the Barangay Drug Clearing Program of the DILG, it said.
“I commend the commitment and cooperation of our barangay officials and Philippine National Police in our campaign against illegal drugs ” Mayor Benjie Miranda said.
The DILG’s Barangay Drug Clearing Program aims to support and empower local government units in their efforts to address the problem of drug abuse and drug-related crimes.
The program provides technical assistance, capacity building, and resource support to barangays that are committed to becoming drug-free, the press release said.*
