Dengue deaths in NegOcc now six, cases up 387.9%

The dengue related deaths in Negros Occidental this year have increased to six, a Provincial Health Office report said Friday, Feb. 20.

The dengue cases in the province from Jan. 1 to Feb. 15 have also increased to 849, the report said,

That is an increase by 387.93 percent of 675 cases more compared to the same period last year with 174 cases, the PHO said.

Bago City still has the most number of dengue cases at 186, followed by Kabankalan City with 66, San Carlos City – 61, La Carlota City – 56, Silay City – 44, Talisay City – 36, Cauayan – 36, Pulupandan – 35, Hinigaran – 28 and Isabela -27.

The age group with the most number of cases is from 11 to 20 years old, the PHO said.

The dengue virus is transmitted by day biting Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes.*
