Crop, animal losses hit P37.9M, 1,270 houses destroyed, damaged

The damage to crops, farm animals, and other sources of livelihood in Negros Occidental late last week hit P37.9 million, updated reports showed today, January 12.

The floods also destroyed 121 houses and damaged 1,049, new reports showed.

Houses destroyed in Talisay City are 49, Escalante City – 2 and Cadiz City – 1, Zeaphard Caelian, Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) head, said.

Talisay City also has 280 damaged houses and Cadiz has 3, he added.

Silay City has 51 destroyed houses and 678 damaged, a report from Mayor Mark Golez said.

Mayor Francis Palanca said there are 18 destroyed houses and 86 damaged in Victorias City.

Damage to crops and fisheries was P21.4 million, affecting 973 farmers fishermen, Provincial Agriculturist Japhet Masculino said.

He said damage to rice crops in Sagay City, Cadiz City, Manapla, Talisay City, Silay City, and Valladolid is P15.1 million, high-value crops in Talisay and Silay cities – P5.7 million, and fisheries in Talisay City, EB Magalona, Sagay City, Cadiz City, and San Carlos City – P591,980.

Damage to livestock and poultry in the cities of Sagay, Talisay, Silay, Victorias, La Carlota and Bago, and the towns of Pulupandan, San Enrique, Valladolid and EB Magalona is P1,040,674.45, Provincial Veterenarian Renante Decena said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Francis Palanca reported additional damage to crops, farm animals, and fishing vessels of P15,459,212.

Social Welfares and Development Regional Director Evelyn Macapobre said her office has released 8,200 food packs for the flood victims of Negros Occidental with EB Magalona getting 1,700, Victorias City – 2,000, Silay City – 1,500, Sagay City -1,500 and Talisay City – 2,000.*
