
A 20-year-old criminology student was killed while a 53-year-old man was injured in a stabbing incident in New Casal-agan, Brgy. Antipolo, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental. on Monday night, June 22.
The fatality was identified as alias “Tam Tam”, a second-year Bachelor of Science in Criminology student at La Carlota City College and a resident of the area.
Injured was “Gusting”, 53, who is undergoing medical treatment while the suspect, identified as “Atong”, 43, is now under police custody.
Investigation revealed that the suspect was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and causing a disturbance at their residence when family members attempted to pacify him.
A confrontation ensued after Gusting, who is the suspect’s brother-in-law, intervened.
The suspect allegedly punched Gusting, prompting Tam-Tam to step in and help defuse the situation.
Authorities said the suspect then drew a kitchen knife and attacked the two victims.
Gusting sustained defensive wounds on his left arm while Tam-Tam suffered a stab wound in the armpit.
Both victims were rushed to a hospital but Tam-Tam was declared dead by the attending physician.
In an interview with DIGICAST NEGROS, Pontevedra Police Chief Capt. Darryl Kuhutan said responding officers prioritized bringing the victims to the hospital upon arriving at the scene.
Kuhutan said the suspect had already fled before police arrived.
He said force multipliers and barangay officials helped authorities track down the suspect, who was later located in Brgy. Canroma while walking and was subsequently arrested.
The suspect remains under police custody while inquest proceedings are being prepared.
Police said Silva is expected to face homicide charges in connection with Tam-Tam’s death.
Meanwhile, authorities said the injured victim has yet to decide whether he will file a separate case against the suspect.
