Police arrested a 44-year-old farmer and seized two unlicensed firearms during the implementation of a search warrant in Sagay City on Wednesday morning, July 15.
The suspect was identified only as alias “Rog,” a resident of Sitio Asao, Brgy. Colonia Divina.
Personnel of the Sagay City Police Station conducted the operation at around 6:44 a.m.
Police recovered a homemade shotgun, a .38 caliber revolver without a serial number, and four rounds of live ammunition.
Authorities said the operation stemmed from a resident’s complaint alleging that the suspect had discharged a firearm and caused fear among people in the community.
Police conducted surveillance and firearms verification, which allegedly showed that the suspect was not a licensed firearm holder.
Investigators then secured a search warrant from the court.
The seized firearms and ammunition will be submitted to the Negros Occidental Provincial Forensic Unit in Bacolod City for ballistic examination.
The suspect remains detained at the Sagay City Police Station while complaints for violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, are being prepared.*
