A policeman who got involved in a verbal scuffle was shot to death Sunday evening, November 14, at Jesusa Heights Subdivision, Brgy, Estefania, Bacolod City.
Killed was Staff Sergeant Benjie Giron of Police Station 6.
Maj. Ritchie Gohee, Police Station 4 commander, said the victim encountered the suspect identified as Regie Buatag when he went to his cousin’s hollow blocks factory.
He said the suspect prohibited the victim from entering the premises because he did not know him, which quickly escalated to a heated argument.
This prompted the suspect to draw a knife and attack the policeman, who then drew his service firearm.
Both grappled for the firearm when it fired and hit the victim on the left side of his abdomen, Gohee said.
The victim was rushed to Metro Bacolod Hospital and Medical Center but was later declared dead by the attending physician.
The suspect is now under the custody of Police Station 4. He denied drawing a knife against the policeman.
Homicide charges are being readied against the suspect.
Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Flynn Dongbo, Police Regional Office-6, director, said: “Our condolences and prayers go to the family, we hope that our Lord brings them much-needed peace during this sad moment. Our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the service he had rendered to the Philippine National Police and the Bacolodnons.”*
