A police officer deployed to secure the MassKara Festival died in an accident at Brgy. San Juan, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental, early Monday morning, October 23.
PCpl. Reden Agus, 31, of Brgy. Hilamonan, Kabankalan City, died after his motorcycle collided with a canter truck along the highway at Purok Ipil-Ipil, Brgy. San Juan.
The motorcycle, traversing from Bacolod to Kabankalan, accidentally bumped the approaching canter truck from the opposite lane.
Pontevedra police chief, Maj. Romulo Gelilango, told DIGICAST NEGROS that they are also looking into the possibility that the victim tried to avoid a dog crossing the highway which resulted in his overshooting to the opposite lane and bumping the canter truck.
The canter truck, driven by Sony Elet, 46, of Brgy. Inayawan, Cauayan town, and his passengers did not sustain any injuries, Gelilango said.
Agus was immediately brought to the Valladolid District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The victim was assigned to the Iloilo Provincial Police Office but was part of the augmentation team at the MassKara Festival.
Gelilanga said Agus was reportedly on his way to his residence in Kabankalan City before returning to Iloilo.
Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said he sent assistance to the policeman’s family.*
