Comelec show cause orders in Neg. Occ. breach 100 mark

The Commission on Elections show cause orders served to candidates facing complaints for premature campaigning in Negros Occidental have breached the 100 mark.

The number of show cause orders issued to candidates for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) reached 107 with 34 new ones served, Comelec Negros Occidental data showed on Wednesday, October 11.

The new show cause orders include 15 in Manapla, 16 in EB Magalona, two in Cauayan and one in Sagay City.

The most number of show cause orders were served in EB Magalona with 56.

Sixteen candidates in EB Magalona were served two show cause orders each.

The show cause orders are served to enable candidates to explain their sides to determine whether or not the poll body should file complaints against them, Provincial Election Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria said.

Section 80 of the Omnibus Election Code states that “it shall be unlawful for any person, whether or not a voter or candidate, or for any party, or association of persons, to engage in an election campaign or partisan political activity except during the campaign period.”

The BSKE campaign period will begin on October 19 and will end on October 28.

Election Day is on October 30.*
