A town in Negros Occidental is being assessed to determine whether it should be included in the list of areas of concern for the May 12 polls.
But Lionel Marco Castillano, Commission on Elections Negros Island Region head, who joined the Negros Occidental Provincial Joint Security Control Center coordinating conference on election security concerns at the Negros Residences on Tuesday, Feb. 18, did not name the town.
The town is being considered for inclusion in the list of areas of concern because of insurgency related matters, Castillano said.
“It’s insurgency related with the Communist rebels taking advantage of a local issue”, he said.
But for now, the police see the entire Negros Occidental as green or peaceful, he said.
Castillano said they are also considering raising the category of La Libertad town in Negros Oriental from yellow to red following the recent burning of heavy equipment in the area by the New People’s Army.*
